We saw our friend again on the way back. Note the large "keel" on it's upper bill, the mark of a breeding male. |
Sandhill cranes. Grey now, but in a few weeks brown. They deliberately stain their plumage with decaying vegetation, evidently as camouflage. Who told them to do so? |
